Cher Responds to Michael Douglas' Remarks on 1988 Oscar Win

In a recent appearance on 'The Graham Norton Show', actor Michael Douglas suggested that his 'Fatal Attraction' co-star, Glenn Close, should have won the 1988 Academy Award for Best Actress instead of Cher, who received the honor for her role in 'Moonstruck'.

Douglas remarked that Close, nominated for her fourth Oscar at the time, 'should have won' for her performance in 'Fatal Attraction'. When host Graham Norton expressed surprise that Cher had won instead, Douglas added, 'I know, that's what we all said.'

In response to these comments, Cher's representative conveyed a message to Entertainment Weekly: 'Cher adores Michael Douglas.'

'Moonstruck', released in 1987, is a romantic comedy directed by Norman Jewison, featuring Cher as Loretta Castorini, a widow who falls in love with her fiancé's brother, played by Nicolas Cage. The film was both a critical and commercial success, earning Cher the Best Actress Oscar at the 60th Academy Awards in 1988. Additionally, Olympia Dukakis won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Rose Castorini, Loretta's mother. The film also received the award for Best Original Screenplay.

Despite the passage of nearly four decades since the 1988 Oscars, discussions about that year's Best Actress category continue to surface, highlighting the enduring impact of both 'Moonstruck' and 'Fatal Attraction' on audiences and critics alike.
