My Chemical Romance Resolves Legal Dispute Over Stage Costumes

My Chemical Romance has agreed to stop dressing its backup dancers in costumes resembling the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' signature uniforms, resolving a legal dispute over a staged gunfight during the band's Hollywood Bowl residency in Los Angeles.

Pro Silver Star Ltd., the company that owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' trademarks, filed a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining order and injunction against the band. The dispute centered on a performance during the band's five-night residency at the Hollywood Bowl, where dancers dressed in blue-and-white outfits similar to the cheerleaders' uniforms appeared during the song "Teenagers." The dancers participated in a staged firefight involving prop rifles, which Pro Silver Star argued could confuse audiences into believing the performers were actual Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, potentially damaging the brand's reputation.

In response to the legal action, My Chemical Romance agreed to discontinue the use of the disputed costumes in their performances. A court hearing scheduled for October 28, 2026, was canceled following this agreement, allowing the band to proceed with their remaining concerts on October 30 and 31 without further legal complications.

The resolution of this dispute highlights the importance of respecting trademark rights and the potential impact of stage performances on brand identity. Both parties have expressed a desire to move forward amicably, ensuring that future performances do not infringe upon the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' trademarks.
